Fearful of Dental Treatments? Discover the Calming Effect of Sedation Dentistry

Dental phobia can be frustrating, to say the least. You want to benefit from all that dental care offers, but fear keeps you far from the dental chair. If you’re one of the millions who suffer from dental anxiety, sedation dentistry could provide the solution you seek. Through dental sedation services from Frisco Elm Dental in Frisco, Texas, you can experience painless, anxiety-free dental visits.

What to Expect from Sedation Dentistry

Sedation dentistry uses medication to help you relax during your dental procedures. Various levels of sedation are available to coincide with your treatment. Sedation dentistry can be used for all dental treatments, including fillings, cleanings, root canals, tooth extraction, and oral surgery. Even children can benefit from the calming effect of our dental sedation services.

Dr. Vidya Suri may recommend sedation dentistry if you:

  • are fearful or anxious about dental treatments
  • have a sensitive gag reflex
  • feel claustrophobic in dental offices
  • suffer from extreme tooth sensitivity
  • need complex or lengthy dental treatments
  • have a hard time sitting still for dental treatment

Types of Sedation Used in Dentistry

There are three types of sedation commonly used for dentistry:

  • Nitrous oxide (aka laughing gas) – This is inhaled through a mask before your procedure. The gas works within minutes to keep you calm during your treatment.
  • Oral conscious sedation – This is taken as a pill (or liquid for children) an hour or so before your treatment. The pill makes you drowsy to help you relax for your procedure.
  • Intravenous (IV) sedation – This puts you to sleep for your treatment and is generally reserved for oral surgery. When you wake up, you’ll have no memory of what occurred during your procedure.

Sedation dentistry takes the fear, stress, and anxiety out of dental visits, making it easy for you to get the dental care services you need to maintain your oral health.
