Sedation dentistry helps Frisco TX patients experience painless, carefree visits

Sedation dentistry helps Frisco TX patients

Just as there is no single restorative treatment suitable for every patient, there is no single sedative approach that is right for every individual. There are different levels of dental fear, ranging from the merely nervous patient to the patient who has developed a debilitating phobia.

Knowing differences exist, Frisco Elm Dental offers options for sedation to calm slightly nervous patients as well as the most anxiety-prone. Thanks to advances in the medications used, even younger patients can safely benefit from Sedation Dentistry in Frisco TX.

Nitrous oxide is probably what you think of when sedatives at the dentist’s office are considered. Commonly referred to as “laughing gas,” nitrous oxide combined with oxygen is delivered through a nasal mask. While the effects of nitrous oxide wear off quickly and the gas induces a state of calm or even joy, this commonly-used approach may not be sufficient for some patients.

Those with severe anxiety may need stronger sedation. In these cases, Dr. Suri can recommend oral conscious sedation. You will take a pill as instructed by the dentist to induce a state of relaxation. While you will become extremely drowsy and your fears will seemingly melt away, carefully-selected and monitored sedatives such as Halcion and Versed are not designed to make you unconscious. You remain awake, in control, and able to communicate with the dental team. Since this approach is responsible for a deeper state of relaxation than nitrous oxide, you will need to arrange transportation to and from the dentist’s office in Little Elm.

During a consultation with you, Dr. Suri will determine the option, based on factors such as your medical history. She may even combine laughing gas with oral sedation. Call (214) 705-7100 to schedule an appointment and experience just how worry free the dental procedure can be!
